Forget about the Bird flu now ,it is the Pig flu that we must take care from

According to the WHO , the new danger is coming from the Bird flu but from the Pig flu !! Of course we must take from the Bird flu but the real danger is coming from the pig flu a.k.a The Swine Flu
I know it may strange because we are a Muslim country , we do not have pork in our menu ,still some raise pigs in Egypt in order to sell it for the Christians
Yet unfortunately most if not all of the Pig farms are faraway from cleanliness to put in our consideration that Pigs eat garbage and they are raised mainly near and in the garbage dumps in Egypt.
The pig raisers are among the poorest classes in Egypt ,already pig is a rejected animal socially and thus its raiser is suffering from the same rejection.
The cleanliness is an important issue here , I mean to know what I am speaking about you only have to take a ride in the "Mahawr" road to 6 October or the desert road , in between there are villages , among these villages , there are couple of two ,which have this terrible smell , when I asked about that smell that constantly there ,I was told that those raise pigs. I forget to say that these areas are considered from the low classes areas which suffer by its turn. And again Pigs are raised in the backyards of the residential houses.
Of course there will be no  vaccination nor protection and this is what makes things very hard.
Pig raisers do not live in Cairo or Giza only but across the country , we have an estimated number of 300,000 pigs across Egypt for example 60,000 pigs in Qalyubia whose governor issued a decision to execute the pigs in the Governorate ,when the WHO warned from couple of years from the Pigs flu , I remember that the pigs raisers made a protest against the decision which seemed not to implemented in the end.
There are 52,000 pigs in Dakahlia ,50,000 in Cairo and 45,000 in Asyut.
I believe the only solution to save the situation in Egypt is to execute pigs across the country , we already are having enough from the domestic poultry
On the other the environment minister made a statement yesterday that the immigrant birds are innocent of infecting the native birds and poultry in Egypt after taking samples from all over the country , from the natural reserves and examining them. I do not know if that should make us happy or worry because this means one thing , the Bird Flu is in Egypt and it settled in it , it does not come from outside , it began to form resistance to foreign vacancies.
Source
It was announced earlier this week in the newspapers that there 35 citizens were detained in hospitals from across the country for suspicion of having Bird Flu , people now began to realize the dangers of the Bird flu and they check themselves in the hospitals as they know there will be  a better chance if the Flu was discovered earlier.
And today it was announced that the health ministry is detaining another 15 citizens in the following Governorates  : Qena,El-Bahaira,El-Gharbia and El-Mania
Already today Tuesday the Cabinet headed by the Prime minister is going to discuss the situation
The Tamiflu is now in the centre of debate of Egypt  ,some say the vaccine is still effective some how while others are saying it is not effective anymore ,in fact it is dangerous.
Those with the Tamiflu mainly from the officials say that it is only effective in the first 48 hours when the human gets the infection other than that it will not help , already the officials agree that it is not that effective like it was and they confessed that the virus began to resist it but they are still depending on it thanks to the publicity of  Roche ,already believe it or not I once heard from a very reliable source in the world of Business in Egypt that bought it because of Donald Rumsfeld , I was surprised because I am source was not from the kind that believe conspiracy theories
Those against the Tamiflu say that it causes side effects causing psychological problems for children and teenagers , of course children are more exposed to the flu in Egypt
Egypt took 2.5 million doses from the company without examination in return it would send to Roche samples from the virus , here we are dealing with the international medicine company that acts according to its own profit , of course the UN and WHO should put limits to this practices because it is not only about Bird flu
Update: THE WHO said that it will start a campaign against Roche's monopoly

  1. I've been on that Mahwr road and smelled that horrid, putrid smell and was told the same thing. It's the pig farms. Most Arab Christians I've met don't eat pork all that much if at all.

Frankly I'd rather smell the car pollution of Cairo which always takes me a week to get used to rather than the pig farm smell. They should indeed execute all the khanazeer.

Tell me this. If H5N1 is not coming from migratory birds, which is why I was wondering why none of the other neighbouring countries have had large # of cases like Egypt, then where is it coming from. Yes, the virus can and probably has mutated. Yes, tamiflu probably isn't as effective as it was or isn't effective on all cases. In the end, the best defense is a good immune system. Sadly, children will be the most affected by this.

So where is it coming from and have there been cases throughout the year or just now in winter?

  2. @N.american Princess , I do not know why they raise Pigs if the Egyptian christians do not eat pork , someone told me that they raise them in order to eat garbage and most their raisers are from the Garbage collectors
and yes the car pollution of Cairo is better that horrible smeill
and they should execute them all

I do not know about the reason why it is here but I think that the people 's careless and continuing behavior to raise domestic poultry are the reason beside the number one reason which is cleanliness , clean enviroment means no virus or diseases , you do not have this unfortunately in the country side due to Poverty

  3. Hi,

I'm Christian and i love to eat pork. and all the Christians i know love to eat pork too. So your knowledge that Egyptian Christians do not eat pork is totally wrong. Just go visit any pork seller in Shobra or any other neighborhood in Cairo and you will see for yourself. When the birds flu broke out no one said we should execute all the chickens did they?

  4. @ Nabil ,
Do you see how they raise pigs in Egypt ??? Do you know what they eat ?? They are not even raised on supervised controlled system
Those Shubra stores with my all respect do not import pork from abroad
Even Pope Shounda lately spoke negatively about it
now if the prime minister orders the execution of pigs will you consider it as a biased decision against the Christian of Egypt ??
BY the way this likely to happen according to the pressure from both the parliament and the public pressure.

  5. God made Pig as it made you. Slaghtering Pig is an act of discrimination not a protection against any flu The complain about the smell of pig farm in Egypt is just an act of discrimination. If God made pig strong enough to survive in horrible condition, who are you to play God. All of you have so much hatred, I wonder is that, what hell is?

  6. Hello. I am very saddened by some of the comments here. I live in the United States and eat no animal products nor do I purchase anything made from them. To me it is not an issue of Muslim vs Christian or Muslim countries vs non Muslim countries. Pigs were created by the same Creator that made all of us and thus are to be treated with kindness and compassion. All of humanity must find compassion in their hearts for all human kind and creatures of this earth or we will all perish. I wonder if the Creator is saddened by the continuing slaughter of his innocent creation. Peace to all that live on this earth.

  7. Anonymous guy, how 'bout you invite PETA to come over to see how pigs live in Egypt? I'm pretty sure PETA themselves will hesitate to slaughter them.

  8. "I'm pretty sure PETA themselves will hesitate to slaughter them." You wanted to say "wouldn't I suppose".

You don't fix something thats bad by doing something worse. Pigs are not our property. Killing them is barbaric. To me no different that 'kill all the elderly because theres some flu thats spreading from people over 60'. Hitler would find Egypt is on the right path.

  9. REACH SETTLEMENT IN EGYPT WITH COPTIC COMMUNITY. LETS STOP THE KILLING OF ANIMALS; The solution about the pigs and any animal is to raise it in the country side. Egypt needs to reach a settlement with the coptic community. If one cow gets sick do we kill all cows. Do we kill all bugs if one is sick. Some flys can spread worse. Do we eat bugs. We know this is not clean to Muslims. We must put pigs in the country side and keep them clean and the gov of egypt should set up the areas. Same with meat for the muslim community. Bugs can infect our meat. If it smells it must also go to the country side. Don't forget they also have all kinds of ticks and flees on them so lets not take it out on the pig. Do we kill all animals then when one gets sick. In other countries animals are kept in the country.
The pigs do not smell because they are keep far apart and are cleaned. I was near sheep there
smell was worse and the bugs. I would not eat lamb now. It is also wrong to kill gods creatures with out reason. Not one was found sick. So lets tell the gov of Egypt to stop the killing.
What is the law. Do we keep gods law Muslims?

  10. Solution is to move the pigs to out side of the cities. Or send most of them to other countries
in Africa where needed. And keep the pig farms clean out side of the cities. Like any other animal they most be kept clean if we are to eat any meat.

  11. Your suggestion to kill the pigs is a matter of ignorance Swine flue does spread mainly from Human to human ,so killing thepigs will not prevent it's spread to Egypt and time will tell after you killed the pigs

  13. I am Egyptian and also Muslim and am disturbed by this article and the ignorance behind it. H1N1 has nothing to do with pigs. Encouraging their slaughter is ridiculous. It is also against writings in the Quran. The way these animals were slaughtered is inhumane and is a sin according to God. Animals are God's creation, and it is not up to ignorant humans to slaughter and kill them. This has also put many Coptics' jobs at hold for no particular reason. I expect nothing more of ignorance and extremism.
